Burro Museum

The Burro Days Museum was established as a “pop-up” attraction in 2019 with the help of a grant from the South Park National Heritage Area. Each year our artifacts, photos, and memorabilia are unpacked and placed carefully in the old historic Park County Jailhouse on the lawn in preparation for visitors during Burro Days. Then they are carefully packed up and stored for the next year.

We are pleased to announce that we have unpacked our museum items for the last time and have set up in a permanent, year-round location. The museum is now located at 501 Main Street and is part of the Town of Fairplay’s new Visitor Center. Visitors will have access to the wonderful Burro Days and burro racing history, all year!

There will be a ribbon cutting and grand opening celebration at the new museum location on Friday, July 25, at 4pm. The museum will be open on Saturday and Sunday during Burro Days from 9am – 3pm and will then follow the visitor center summer hours which are 9am – 4pm, Monday – Friday and 9am – 2pm on Saturdays.

Join the Town of Fairplay in celebrating the role of the burro in mining and the history of burro racing. Please contact Julie Bullock if you have something you would like to share or donate for the museum, 719-839-6077 or jbullock@fairplayco.us.
